New Year=New Groups!

With the new year upon us, we have come up with some new ideas in order to better meet the needs of our sisters in this ward. We have women of many different backgrounds, with many different needs. Relief Society presidencies all over the world have been asked to set up "groups" within their wards in order to provide activities that would best serve our sisters.

In the Burton Ward, we don't want to burden our sisters with too many activities, but we do want to provide some fun outlets for you in order to build unity, strengthen one another, and be uplifted. Here are our group options:

S.I.S.ter Day

Self Improvement Saturdays - a time where we will learn a new skill, try something new, or work on a project of our own. With so many sisters available who have things they can teach us, we'll never run out of things to learn!

1st Saturday of each month
10:00 a.m. - Noon
Abby Welker's home (subject to change occasionally)
Children are welcome to come if Dad isn't available

Out-to-Lunch Bunch

This is a fun time for sisters to get together, share their favorite recipes, and enjoy one another's company. Bring the kids and come enjoy some good food and great ladies.

3rd Thursday of each month
Noon-2:00 p.m.
Bring a dish to share
Locations rotate within the group

Book Club

Let's all read a good book together! We've been charged to constantly seek learning from good books and this group is dedicated to doing that. Each book selection is carefully screened for appropriate content, and we discuss the books together as a group. This is a perfect excuse to get away for an evening with the girls.

4th Thursday of Every Month
7:00 p.m.
No children, please
Location will be rotated within group members

T.L.C. Group - Temple * Lunch * Companionship
This group is for any sister who wishes to attend the temple. Some sisters are unable to attend the temple for various reasons and because it is so important, we want to help you attend. Babysitting and carpooling will be available so please set the time aside and go.

4th Saturdays
10:00 a.m. session
Contact Abby Welker or the Detroit Temple to reserve your spot
You are welcome to bring a sack lunch if you do not wish to purchase one there.
Depending on the response and needs of the sisters, we will determine whether to do this monthly or bi-monthly.

S.I.S.ter Day-January 10th

Self Improvement Saturdays = S.I.S.ter Day
2nd Saturday of every month

Join us on Saturday, January 10th
10:00 a.m. - Noon
Abby Welker's Home
children are welcome to come play in my basement if Dad isn't available

We're getting back to the basics of what women used to do when their husbands were out working the land (or something like that). With the morning chores done and quiet time to themselves, women would make or mend things with their hands, always productive.

With so much handiwork becoming a lost art among women these days, I'd like to offer a workshop on basic crochet. After you learn a couple of simple concepts, you can make a beautiful scarf, a hat, or a soft baby blanket to start with.

Here's what you'll need:
1-2 pkgs. yarn
crochet hook - the size you'll need will be on the back of your yarn packaging. If you don't know, bring any size and we'll work with that.

If you absolutely have NO interest in crochet, then you can make a fun fleece brooch like the one pictured below (I will have all of the materials here), or bring your own project and enjoy the company!

December Home, Family & Personal Enrichment

"The Incredible Gifts of Women"
based on the book by Barbara Barrington Jones
Tuesday, December 16
6:30 p.m.
- 8:00 p.m.
Dinner will be served
Babysitting Will Be Provided

Please come and join us for a cozy evening with a warm bowl of soup and great company! We're going to talk about the "Incredible Gifts of Women" and find out ways we can improve ourselves in order to be an effective Latter-Day Saint woman in any of life's stations we are in.

Also, we will be tying a quilt to give as a gift to a member of our ward. We have so many members who are unable to meet with us each week and it would be nice for us to show them that we love them and care about them.

So come fill up on warm soup, warm conversation, and sweet service!
